The City of West Des Moines is looking for an engaging, forward-thinking, and collaborative Human Resources Director to lead our Human Resources department.

Under the general director of the City Manager, this role is responsible for the development, management, and direction of the Human Resources Department for the City of West Des Moines. They will be responsible for attracting, retaining, and motivating a highly competent, qualified, and diverse workforce for the City.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Public Administration, Business, or other related discipline plus at least 10 years of Human Resources experience (8 of those in a leadership role).


Additional knowledge we are looking for:

·         SPHR or SHRM-SCP preferred, but not required

·         Compensation design and delivery

·         Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state laws and current industry practices pertaining to HR issues

·         Expense management

·         Talent and leadership
