The Opportunity
The Deputy Vice President (DVP) of Human Resources (HR) is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the UnidosUS Human Resources portfolio and working in partnership with the Leadership Team to develop and execute HR strategy to support the strategic direction of UnidosUS. The portfolio includes employee relations and engagement; recruitment and talent management; compensation and benefits; HR compliance and reporting; and HR training, data, and analytics; The DVP also provides leadership and guidance to HR operations, which includes managing one Director and an overall team of five staff. The DVP is expected to work closely with the Finance Team in the execution of core HR work, and as a business partner to other Vice Presidents.
Success in this role requires strong technical skills on all HR matters as well as significant empathy/emotional intelligence aligned with UnidosUS’s overall philosophy and organizational culture. It also requires strong ability to oversee this function in relation to the big picture. The successful candidate will be highly collaborative, with a focus on presenting solutions to facilitate the organization’s effectiveness and growth, and supporting the HR needs of teams to advance the mission of UnidosUS.
The DVP’s responsibilities will include:
Leadership and Management
- In conjunction with the COO, establishes the organization’s human resource philosophy and practices. Identifies key performance indicators for the organization’s human resource and talent management functions; assesses the organization’s success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.
- Researches, develops, and implements competitive HR practices and policies, including compensation, benefits, performance review, and employee incentive programs.
- Provides guidance and counsel to the leadership team; assists with resolution of human resource, compensation, and benefits questions, concerns, and issues. Collaborates with the leadership team on all aspects of HR to execute on the organization’s priorities and goals; identifies ways to support strategy and advance mission.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Recruits, hires, and onboards HR staff
- Direct supervision of one Director and one Manager
- Oversees the daily workflow of the component
- Provides consistent constructive feedback and timely performance evaluations
Administration and Compliance
- Ensures compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements, including Benefits Form 5500 submissions; ACA 1095-C & 1094-C Tax Forms; Annual Notices (401k, benefits), etc.
- Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations and changes, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.
- Develops and implements comprehensive compensation and benefits plans that are competitive and cost-effective.
- Drafts and implements the budget for the human resource component.
Collaboration with Finance Team
- Collaborates with COO and CFO on key external partnerships: Fidelity; Insurance Carriers, etc.; helps to lead benefits negotiations each year; and plan and implement Open Enrollment.
- Partners with Finance Team to ensure the smooth operations of the organization, on matters including Benefits Management; Leaves of Absence, including COVID-19 leaves; 401(k) Compliance; Payroll; ADP WFN Management.
Employee Relations
- Provides confidential and expert support to colleagues on a range of professional, workplace, team and personal matters central to employee performance and engagement.
- Interacts with employees, managers of people, Leadership Team and others to identify and resolve workplace issues, measure employee satisfaction and morale, and provide support and input to performance management and salary increases based on market values.
Candidate Profile
While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, a successful candidate will bring many of the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of human resource management experience, with strategic talent management, and/or business development experience and extensive knowledge of HR practices and policies with emphasis in employee relations.
- Ten (10) plus years of supervisory experience
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR certification preferred

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Bilingual (Spanish-English) skills a plus
